HONEYWELL
AIRFIELD SYSTEMS.

interactive media developer. marketing materials, sales collateral.

[ OBJECTIVE ]

Translate Complex Engineering for the End-User. Target: Honeywell International (Global Aerospace & Building Technologies). I was brought in to Honeywell Airfield Systems to develop an interactive CD-ROM catalog with menus and buttons and sound effects and more. I took photos of all available products, and processed the photos, and for products that I did NOT have available for photos, I then created 3D models and rendered them as I would the photos.

[ LANDSCAPE ]

Honeywell builds the systems that keep planes in the sky and skyscrapers habitable. The engineering is brilliant, but the "User Interface" for these physical products is often a printed manual. If the manual is confusing, the product fails.

[ MANDATE ]

We were engaged to execute the technical documentation and layout for consumer-facing hardware. The goal was to take "Engineer-Speak"—dense, jargon-heavy specs—and translate it into "User-Ready" collateral that was intuitive, legally compliant, and on-brand.

[ TARGET ]

Honeywell operates at the intersection of consumer simplicity and industrial complexity. The challenge in this sector is Information Architecture.

A user installing a thermostat or a security sensor needs immediate visual confirmation of the steps. We approached the documentation not as "text on a page," but as a linear visual workflow.

[ DEPLOYMENT ]

Status: Documentation Standardized.

We implemented a "Visual-First" documentation strategy.

  • The " IKEA" Protocol: We minimized text density and maximized instructional illustration. By using clean, isometric line art, we reduced the cognitive load on the user, speeding up installation times.

  • Global Compliance: We structured the layouts to accommodate multi-language localization (12+ languages) without breaking the grid, ensuring a single master document could serve global markets.

  • Brand Alignment: We ensured that even the black-and-white instruction sheets felt "Premium," utilizing Honeywell’s typographic standards to maintain brand authority even inside the box.
