Western Australia Trade Company

A venture connecting Australia and the United States

The Western Australia Trade Company was a venture I developed with Justin Lunn in Perth, connecting Australian products with the United States. The original portfolio records the initial idea around Justin's fishing-industry contacts and exports to Northern California. My early creative contribution was a logo concept that gave the venture a visible identity.

The broader product direction included blue and yellow lobsters, large shrimp and crabs, lamb, beef, opals, and leather goods. That range calls for a company identity broad enough to represent trade between the two countries rather than a mark tied to only one item.

A name and symbol with a clear geographic connection

The original artwork emphasizes Western Australia in the main name treatment, with Trade Company completing the description. The kangaroo silhouette gives the identity an immediate Australian association. The textured background provides a setting while the dark lettering keeps the name readable.

The composition connects geography with purpose: the place name establishes the source region, and the company descriptor explains the commercial direction. The symbol reinforces that connection without requiring a separate paragraph beside the logo.

The original identity concept

The gallery below preserves the logo idea described in my original portfolio. It documents the creative work at the identity-concept stage and the visual presentation around the venture. The current featured cover expands the trade and product setting for the portfolio gallery.

This project combines a personal business undertaking with a practical design task: give a proposed trading operation a recognizable name-and-symbol presentation. The identity needed to make sense across different products while keeping its Western Australian connection clear.
