Honeywell
A technical product catalog you could see, hear, and explore
For Honeywell Airfield Systems, I developed an interactive CD-ROM catalog that combined product imagery, navigation, sound, and technical catalog material. The assignment included menus and buttons, sound effects, product photography, image processing, and 3D models and renderings for products that were unavailable to photograph.
The range of products made the imagery particularly interesting. Some equipment could be placed in front of a camera. Other equipment had to be represented through a model. The catalog needed a way to present both within the same collection, so users could move through the product information without encountering a completely different visual approach each time.

Photograph the available products. Build the missing views.
I photographed the available products and processed the images for the catalog. When a product was not available for photography, I created a 3D model and rendered it as a product image. This let the presentation include subjects that could not be photographed during the assignment.
That combination of photography and visualization is a practical creative tool. A photograph records a physical object; a model supplies a view that would otherwise be missing. Bringing them into the same catalog gives the reader a more complete visual collection to explore.
The original pages include control-system material, runway centerline and threshold lighting, runway guard lights, medium-intensity runway lights, an airport rotating beacon, and obstruction lights. They show the variety of forms and technical subjects that the product presentation had to accommodate.

The interface gave the catalog another dimension
The CD-ROM format made the project more than a sequence of printed pages. Menus and buttons supplied navigation, while sound effects and introductory music added an audiovisual layer. The deliverables included an auto-loading disc, interactive menus, the PDF catalog, and custom marketing materials.
Each part had a different job. The product pages carried the details. The interface provided ways to move through them. The artwork on the disc and jewel case identified the collection before it was opened. The music established another element of the presentation’s character.
The original “Funky Honeywell Intro” is included below so that part of the project can be heard as well as described.
The disc and its packaging were part of the experience
The disc face, cover, and jewel-case artwork use Honeywell’s recognizable red identity alongside imagery associated with aviation and airfield operations. They turn the interactive catalog into a coherent physical deliverable, with a labeled disc and supporting package rather than a collection of files without a presentation.
The front, back, and disc artwork carry the catalog’s visual identity into its physical packaging, connecting the interactive experience with the finished presentation delivered to the client.
